THV Saddling Lunge Rein
The THV Saddling Lunge Rein. An ‘old fashioned and beautiful piece of equipment that some of us ‘old-uns’ remember from years gone by!
- 25mm wide and soft, white cotton webbing provides an excellent feel for the trainer and is safer for both horse and trainer than some of the modern, unbreakable synthetic webbing! (Please note that reins being made in November 2022 have been made with slightly narrower webbing because the original has not been available for some time. Original versions measured one and a quarter inch, and the latest ones are measuring at one inch, so still wide enough for comfort, but slightly different to the original version.)
- A leather loop that attaches to the nose ring on the cavesson, avoids all the distracting and annoying ‘jingle jangle’ on the horses’ nose, that metal clips create.
- A simple leather stop at the end of the rein helps to avoid it being pulled through the trainer’s hand, but there is no loop/handle for someone to accidentally/mistakenly put their hand through, which is very dangerous indeed!
- The qualities in the rein make it easy to provide the positive, consistent rein contact that horses can trust and allows subtle communication.
Please note that until July 2021, the lunge reins were made with a metal swivel joint, because our lunge cavesson had a fixed centre ring. However, the centre ring on the cavesson now swivels and so the lunge rein has been modified to make it simpler in construction where it gets close to the horse’s head/face.
If you are ordering a new lung rein, please check whether your cavesson nose ring swivels or not, to decide whether you want a swivel on the rein or not.
To get the best results possible, we recommend that it is used in conjunction with the THV Saddling Lunge Cavesson, also known as the THV Saddling ‘Magic Cavesson’.
