Description
This pad is made using…. ½ inch (12.5mm) thickness of ‘gel-foam’ that sits under the full length of the saddle panels, plus ¼ inch (6.5mm) extra, internal lift at the front.
The THV Saddling Pro-Complete Base Pad in 1/2 inch thickness.
When we first introduced the Pro-Complete Pads, the half inch version of the Base Pad was the only option we had, so those of you who bought your saddles and pads from us many years ago are likely to have used this pad.
In more recent years, we were able to introduce the thinner ¼ inch (6.5mm) version into our range.
However, the ½ inch (12.5mm) Base Pad is still very useful when taking a very muscle wasted, or underdeveloped horse through a Remedial Saddling process, and makes it possible and safe to use a saddle that is considerably wider than the current body shape, in order to allow for the recovery of healthy muscle mass, at which point a thinner Base Pad, or sometimes no Base Pad is required, under the same saddle.
For very muscle wasted horses, the ½ inch Base Pad is usually used in combination with an Extra Thick Wool Fleece Lined Saddle Pad or a Deluxe Sheepskin Pad, which creates a feel that is inviting enough for the horse to engage its back into and is also soft enough to avoid blocking the firing of weak muscle.
Alternatively, it can be used in combination with one of our Regular thickness Wool Fleece Lined Pads which creates a firmer feel for the horse.
These pads have the loop side of a hook/loop fixing system along the full length and can, therefore, have any of the THV Saddling Pro-Complete Add-On Pads attached as necessary.
The colour options are Black or Brown which are covered in hard wearing and attractive faux suede material and Bright White, which have a cotton covering.
Please note:
- If your horse has a well developed back and/or you are using a saddle that is only marginally wider than your horse’s static back, you will probably find the ¼” (6.5mm) version of the Base Pad more appropriate.
- If you ride in a saddle with foam panels, your horse might also prefer the feel of the Wool-Fleece version of the Base Pad.
The pads are available in 2 lengths… Regular and Long.
